Frequently Asked Questions

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a process designed to give you a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space where you can explore difficulties and gain a better understanding of yourself. Counselling can help you to focus on and understand more clearly issues that concern you.

Counselling and psychotherapy can be very beneficial for many people in a wide variety of situations including helping people to cope with depression and anxiety, grief and loss, phobias, trauma, relationship difficulties, abuse, low self-esteem as well as many other personal problems.

Counselling provides a safe, confidential space to talk about your issues and problems that may be confusing, painful or uncomfortable. Counselling encourages self-exploration, self-awareness and taking control and responsibility of your choices. Through the development of insight and increased self-awareness clients gain a better understanding of their own behaviour and issues and can then start bringing about effective changes they wish to make.

What is the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Counselling tends to be relatively short-term, dealing with a specific problem or situation. Psychotherapy is more long-term for those wishing to deepen their understanding of themselves and their relationship with others.
